Physical Therapy
Exercises which enhance endurance and overall function
Exercises and techniques which re-educate muscles, normalize muscle tone, and enhance strength and movement in arms, legs, back and neck
Activities which improve balance and coordination
Training in the use of walkers, canes, wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment
Training in the use of prostheses (artificial limbs) and orthoses (support braces)
Fitting of splints and other supportive devices which return contracted muscles to a relaxed position to help prevent further contractions
Joint handling techniques which enhance movement, reduce pain and improve range of motion
Occupational Therapy
Training which improves ability to complete daily tasks
Fitting of customized splints to improve hand function
Exercises which build strength and endurance
Techniques which help compensate for vision and memory loss
Education for facilities and families on ways to prevent further problems which could result from a patient’s injury or condition
Recommendation of equipment for the facility or home that can assist in the completion of tasks such as dressing, bathing and meal preparation
Suggestions for facility or home modifications that can improve safety
Training in energy conservation techniques such as pacing, breathing and use of adaptive equipment which can improve overall functioning in daily living activities

Both Physical and Occupational Therapies are provided with physical agent modalities through Evergreen’s Rehabilitative Advanced Modality Program (R.A.M.P.). This program provides numerous benefits:

Use of electrical stimulation for pain management, increased blood flow, spasticity management and muscle re-education
Ultrasound treatments used for deep heating to facilitate the relaxation of contractures and accelerate the healing of soft tissue
Use of shortwave diathermy to increase the extensibility of collagen tissue, reduce inflammation, and increase local blood flow to decrease pain
Extensive education and training for facilities and families/caregivers

Evergreen therapists also receive extensive training and clinical support in these areas:

Speech Therapy

Improvement of articulation, voice, fluency, rhythm and rate following a stroke, brain injury or damage to parts of the nervous system related to speech
Treatment of language disorders resulting from damage from stroke, brain injury, brain tumor or other neurological changes to the language centers of the brain
